April 6: A retired magistrate and his wife were found dead at their residence in Bandlaguda on Wednesday. They had died two days ago, police said. The incident came to light when their son, Mr Narsing Rao, 46, who is mentally challenged, tried to burn the bodies within the compound of their house, fearing that locals would blame him.
According to Rajendranagar police, Ms Sarojini Rao, 72, died of diabetes two days ago. Her husband, K. Hanumantha Rao, 76, retired junior civil judge of Bhongir, committed suicide by hanging the same day, police said. On Wednesday, Narsing Rao planned to burn the bodies and collected wood from the trees. He brought down his father’s body and dragged it to the pyre he had made in the compound. Locals noticed him while he was performing some rituals including sprinkling turmeric water and alerted the police.
Initially the police and locals thought Narsing Rao might have killed his parents. However, during interrogation he narrated the sequence of events. The police shifted the bodies to Osmania General Hospital for autopsy to ascertain the actual cause of death, and registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC. The police allowed Mr Narsing Rao to stay at his home. He was separated from his wife after his mental condition aggravated.
