JOB DESCRIPTION :
PTC is looking for a highly intelligent, motivated, and organized leader for a challenging new
technical product management position titled "Product Definition Lead". This position
resides in the internal systems group in PTC University, PTC's customer training
department.
One of PTC's vital corporate objectives is to have a strong and growing customer education
business. To be successful, the department needs powerful information management and
product development tools for our employees and partners. This new product definition
lead role will have the responsibility to ensure that a multitude of development projects are
well-defined, well-executed, and aggressively managed to completion in a timely manner.
He or she will work very closely with the US-based product director to ensure all projects
are completely and accurately documented. He or she will help the India-based
development teams understand the total vision behind their work, keeping them focused on
the ultimate goals. He or she will manage product requirements and defects, and ensure
that the development velocity is maintained at a high rate.
Although this role will not actually manage a development team, this is a leadership role
critical to successful and efficient product development. The development teams must be
confident that this person is continuously evolving a comprehensive knowledge of the
systems as a whole, and thus the ability to make informed decisions about a broad range of
design decisions. Over time, this role should grow into a full Product Management role.
Requirements:
The candidate must have extensive experience with database design and queries, web
application mechanics, software development methodologies, project management,
technical support, and user training. The ideal candidate must have a strong sense of
personal responsibility for the success of organizational goals where these systems are
concerned. He or she will also have mature interpersonal and communication skills. The
candidate must be proactive in identifying risks and creative in approaches to eliminate or
mitigate them. He or she must be agile and creative enough to effectively overcome
technical and personal obstacles within the department, as well as with outside parties or
systems.
Candidates with skills, knowledge, and experience in the following areas will be given the
highest consideration:
Gathering & validating requirements, digesting those requirements, and working with
a technical team to craft solution designs.
Guiding technical teams and making intelligent, informed design and product
decisions in a timely manner.
Thinking strategically about the future direction of the products and the impact of
their decisions on that future direction.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills
Extensive experience working with global, distributed teams.
